Chisels
Bristol
Design have been making a range of chisels aimed at the top quality end
of the market for many years with individual hammer forging of top
grade pure carbon steel, hand grinding, then proper heat treatment
(allowing to tools to soak at stepped temperatures). This was
all to the aid of having the best edge holding ability possible and
resulted in tools not dissimilar to the older traditional "Cast Steel"
chisels.
This
effort was done in conjunction with a forge interested in keeping alive
traditional techniques of quality production and ran as a sideline
along with more modern techniques. Unfortunately the
accountants have gained an upper hand at the forge and our production
runs have been stopped. We still have stocks of most of the
tools but they will gradually run out.
The
ranges included:
Cabinet makers bench chisels.
Wood carvers chisels and gouges.
Wood turners chisels and gouges.
As
stocks run out the best quality alternative is often older
chisels. We do have good stocks of older chisels, of course
each is a "one off" so difficult to list. We are looking for
other new chisel alternatives.

Our cabinet chisels come with boxwood handles

We have been doing about 300 sizes and shapes. Might take a
little time to put this on the web. These come with boxwood
handles like the cabinet makers chisels. Prices are generally
in the range of £15 to £30.
